Possible side effects, harm and contraindications from Minoxidil

Any medication can have a certain negative effect on the body and exhibit side effects. This is often due to the fact that the patient does not use this remedy correctly: it exceeds the dosage or uses it incorrectly. Minoxidil is no exception - there are side effects of this popular remedy for baldness and beard growth.

It should immediately be noted that the side effects of minoxidil are less serious compared to other drugs, since minoxidil is more a cosmetic product than a medical one. In particular, when testing foams, lotions and other products containing minoxidil, only isolated negative reactions due to the individual characteristics of the body were recorded.

Does minoxidil have side effects?

This substance belongs to the group of relatively safe ones. This is confirmed by clinical studies by American scientists, which involved patients with different levels of blood pressure. It was found that while minoxidil has the ability to dilate blood vessels, it has no effect on blood pressure.

In some cases, when using minoxidil-containing drugs, burning and peeling of the skin, redness and dryness occurred. These symptoms are caused by the alcohol content of minoxidil. Alcohol is known to dry out the skin. However, all of these manifestations in most cases appear at the beginning of drug use, persist for approximately 2-4 weeks and resolve without treatment.

If there is an individual intolerance to minoxidil, then an allergic reaction may occur when using products containing it. In this regard, before using these drugs, you should check the reaction to this substance.

It is worth noting that during the entire period of use of minoxidil by our clients, not a single person had an allergic reaction.

It should be noted that the practice of using minoxidil for the prevention and treatment of baldness in its various manifestations goes back several decades. During this time, isolated instances of negative reactions were identified. The effectiveness of using such drugs is quite high.

Minoxidil contraindications

Minoxidil-containing drugs also have a number of contraindications, in the presence of which it is recommended not to use these drugs. Experts identify the following risk groups for which such products are not recommended:

  • patients suffering from chronic diseases of the circulatory system;
  • patients with various acute skin diseases;
  • people with open lesions, ulcers, burns of various nature on their scalp;
  • pregnant women and mothers during lactation;
  • persons under 18 and over 65 years of age.

While remaining safe for humans, minoxidil is harmful and even dangerous for domestic cats - poisoning may occur if the animal comes into direct contact with the drug.

Frequency and duration of minoxidil use

The side effects of a drug largely depend on how long and how often it is used. If you independently increase the number of applications and the volume of the drug taken, then their severity may increase several times. Therefore, it is recommended to strictly follow the instructions supplied with the product.

How to avoid side effects from Minoxidil?

  • read the instructions carefully;
  • do not exceed the dosage indicated in the instructions;
  • Do not mix minoxidil with other products.

Important!

With proper use of minoxidil, any side effects and contraindications are reduced to zero. This article relates more to the improper use of minoxidil, or to its combination with undesirable drugs in order to achieve a better effect.
